Sai Baba was an avatar of Lord Dattatreya. Baba was called the God of common man who resided in Shirdi, Maharashtra. Sai Baba was a saint, a guru worshipped by both Hindus and Muslims. He lived a very simple life. He healed the sick, saved lives of many people, fed the hungry and blessed many with fortune. Sai Baba’s teachings emphasized on charity, forgiveness, love and compassion towards all.
He opposed discrimination based on religion & caste. Baba preached Shraddha and Saburi to all of us. Sai Baba also teaches us the importance of self-realisation and how we give too much importance to things which are material/perishable in nature. There are many promises Baba is said to have made to his devotees, one of which is, that whosoever comes to Shirdi will have their sufferings come to an end. Baba performed many miracles for his devotees- he turned water into oil to lit the diyas and he brought healing to many people affected by epidemics.
